As Warren County approaches its bicentennial in 2024-2025, the tour will celebrate the area’s rich history and its reputation for pristine waterways and fertile farmland. The journey through time will showcase the county’s early settlements, including Greenwich, Oxford Furnace, and Pahaquarry, which date back to before the county’s official formation in 1824.
Greenwich, located at the confluence of the Delaware and Musconetcong Rivers, served as a key entry point for Quaker, German, and Scots-Irish settlers migrating north from Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Oxford Furnace saw significant growth following the establishment of the furnace in 1741, becoming the first commercial hub of the county. Pahaquarry’s history includes the construction of a mill by Abraham Van Campen in 1732, marking the southernmost settlement in a chain of Dutch villages along the Minisink Valley.
