Morris County Sheriff honors National Correctional Officers Week
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing National Correctional Officers Week and encouraging the public to honor the men and women who serve as correctional police officers.
Observed during the first full week of May since its establishment in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, the week highlights the professionalism and dedication of correctional staff across the country.
Sheriff James M. Gannon said the observance serves as a reminder of the important and often underrecognized role correctional officers play in the justice system.
Officials said correctional police officers are responsible for maintaining safety and security within facilities while ensuring individuals in custody are treated fairly and humanely.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Office also emphasized the demands of the profession, noting that correctional facilities operate around the clock, requiring officers to manage physical, emotional and mental challenges as part of their daily responsibilities.
This year, the department is placing a special focus on the wellness of corrections personnel, highlighting the importance of supporting those who work in high-stress environments.
Authorities encouraged residents to recognize and thank correctional officers for their service and commitment to public safety throughout Morris County.
