Dog rescued after falling through ice at White Meadow Lake

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A dog was rescued Monday morning after falling through the ice at White Meadow Lake in Rockaway Township, according to the White Meadow Lake Fire Company No. 5.

Fire officials said the incident was reported at about 8:30 a.m., when headquarters dispatched Companies 3 and 5, along with fire chiefs, to the White Meadow Lake Clubhouse for an ice rescue. The dog had fallen through the ice approximately 100 yards from shore.

Rescue personnel from Company 5 arrived on scene, quickly suited up and began ice rescue operations. Firefighters were able to safely retrieve the dog and bring it back to shore, officials said.

The animal was then transported to an emergency veterinary facility for evaluation.
