Dover police say no known threat to middle school following investigation, plan increased police presence
DOVER, N.J. (Morris County) — The Dover Police Department says there is no known threat to students, school staff or the public following an investigation into reported threatening statements involving a Dover Middle School student.
In an updated statement released Sunday, Oct. 25, police addressed additional concerns circulating throughout the community and confirmed that the juvenile responsible for the reported statements had been identified and a thorough investigation conducted.
According to police, officers contacted the juvenile and their parent or guardian, assessed the circumstances surrounding the statements and coordinated with other law enforcement agencies, including the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Homeland Security Unit.
Based on the information gathered during the investigation, authorities determined there is no known threat to the safety of students, school employees or the general public at this time.
The department initially addressed the situation Friday afternoon, Oct. 23, after reports of an alleged threat involving a Dover Middle School student began circulating on social media. At that time, police confirmed that the individual involved had been identified and said the matter was under active investigation.
Sunday’s update provided additional details about the investigative steps taken and reassured families that students could continue attending school as usual.
Police said there is no information indicating that students should avoid attending school or that parents need to change their normal school routines because of the reported threat.
As an additional precaution, the Dover Police Department said it will maintain a visible police presence in and around local schools to provide reassurance to students, parents and staff.
The department also said it remains in close communication with Dover Public Schools officials and will continue providing resources to support a safe and secure learning environment.
Police acknowledged that reports involving potential threats to schools can be unsettling for families and emphasized that every reported threat is taken seriously, thoroughly investigated and addressed in coordination with school officials and law enforcement partners.
The department thanked the community for its patience, cooperation and continued trust while reiterating that student safety remains its highest priority.
No additional details about the juvenile or the nature of the reported statements were released.
