Driver charged with DWI after crashing into tree in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 20-year-old Morris County woman was charged with DWI after crashing into a tree early Sunday morning in Mount Olive Township.

The crash happened at around 3:44 a.m. on Whispering Woods Drive, police said.

An officer arrived at the scene and found a gray Toyota that had struck a tree. Upon speaking with the driver, Katie Bowers of Flanders, police allegedly detected the odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment, authorities said.

Bowers was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested. She was taken to police headquarters and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and reckless driving.

She was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance.
