Driver charged with DWI after SUV overturns in Somerset County crash
PEAPACK-GLADSTONE BOROUGH, N.J. (Somerset County) — A Somerset County man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a single-vehicle crash that left his SUV overturned Thursday night in Peapack and Gladstone Borough, authorities said.
Police responded at approximately 8:09 p.m. April 9 to the area of Route 206 and Holland Avenue for a report of an overturned vehicle with a trapped driver.
Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle overturned on its roof about 20 feet down an embankment. The driver, identified as Arthur Snyder IV of Gladstone, had already exited the vehicle and was located nearby in a wooded area, police said.
Snyder was able to climb back to the roadway, where he was evaluated at the scene by members of the Peapack-Gladstone First Aid Squad. He reported no injuries and declined medical transport.
An investigation determined Snyder had been driving a 2026 GMC Yukon southbound on Route 206 at an unsafe speed while attempting to turn left onto Holland Avenue. During the turn, he lost control, struck a guide rail and overturned down the embankment, authorities said.
Members of the Peapack-Gladstone Fire Department assisted in stabilizing the vehicle, and Far Hills police also responded to assist at the scene.
Snyder was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was later released to a responsible person pending court proceedings.
