Driver ejected, killed in Sussex County crash

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A man died after crashing his car in Andover Township Friday night.

On May 31, at around 8:46 p.m., police responded to Yates Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with ejection, police said.

Joseph P Luchetti, 60, of Andover Township, who was the sole occupant in the vehicle, was located in a wooded area where members of Newton EMS began treating his injuries, police said.

Luchetti was then transported to a nearby landing zone and due to the extent of his injuries, he was pronounced dead, police said.

According to police, Luchetti was driving a 1963 Pontiac when he was traveling on Yates Avenue and veered off the roadway and down into a culvert, police said.

First responders searched the area for additional occupants and confirmed Luchetti was the only person in the vehicle, police said.

The road remained closed for repairs to a utility pole that was struck during the crash, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Andover Township Police Department and no further information was available, police said.
