Driver leads police on chase, flees on foot into Delaware River, arrested in Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — A man was arrested June 13 after allegedly fleeing from police and entering the Delaware River during a pursuit that began in Easton, Pa., authorities said.

The Easton Police Department attempted a motor vehicle stop on South Delaware Drive when the suspect’s vehicle fled, police said. The driver abandoned the vehicle on foot and entered the Delaware River.

Phillipsburg officers were called to assist and located the suspect, identified as Robert Hollingsworth III, on the New Jersey side of the river.

Hollingsworth had several active warrants for his arrest, including one related to motor vehicle theft out of Phillipsburg.
