Man charged with DWI after police find vehicle with fictitious plates in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A New York man was charged with driving while intoxicated and several other motor vehicle offenses after Denville police said they found him operating a vehicle displaying fictitious license plates.

Police were monitoring traffic on Route 10 east at about 3:15 p.m. Sept. 28 when they received an alert on a vehicle’s registration. An inquiry revealed the vehicle was displaying fictitious license plates, according to police.

Officers subsequently located the vehicle and its driver, identified as Ahmed Sekou Sow, 35, of New York City, in a parking lot along Route 10 east.

During the investigation, police said Sow displayed signs of possible impairment. After conducting standardized field sobriety testing, officers arrested Sow and transported him to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.

Sow was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, careless driving, driving while suspended, driving an unregistered vehicle, reckless driving, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to possess an insurance card, fictitious plates and operating a vehicle without liability insurance.

Sow was released pending a future court date in Denville Municipal Court.
