Driver seriously injured after SUV crashes into tree on I-287 in Somerset County, state police say

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 21-year-old woman was seriously injured Monday morning when her SUV left the roadway and struck a tree along Interstate 287 in Somerset County, according to the New Jersey State Police.

State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash at 7:35 a.m. on I-287 North at milepost 21.6 in Bedminster Township.

A Nissan SUV was traveling northbound when it veered off the road to the left and collided with a tree. The driver, identified as Maria Gomez Menjivar, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, Lebron said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.
