Emu sighted roaming Sussex County
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Authorities are asking residents to report sightings of a loose emu that was first spotted Saturday near Waterloo Road and later seen in the Cranberry Lake area, according to the Hopatcong Animal Shelter.
The emu was reported found at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in Byram Township off Waterloo Road.
As of about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, the bird had moved to the Cranberry Lake area of town, officials said.
Anyone who knows who the emu belongs to, or anyone who sees the bird, is asked to call the Byram Township Police Department immediately at 973-940-5500.
Officials did not release additional information about where the bird may have come from.
