Erratic driver complaint leads to DWI arrest in Sussex County
SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man is facing several charges, including driving while intoxicated, after allegedly driving erratically in Sparta Township.
On March 25, at approximately 7:57 p.m., officers responded to a report of a white Honda SUV driving erratically along Woodport Road. The caller reported that the vehicle was swerving and bouncing off curbs before pulling into the Liquor Factory parking lot, police said.
Upon arrival, the officers observed the vehicle parked crookedly in front of the liquor store. The vehicle’s engine was running, and its brake lights were activated. Officers approached the car and made contact with the driver, identified as Audes Choc-Salam, 26, of Sparta Township, police said.
While speaking with Choc-Salam, an officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. Further inspection revealed several open beer cans inside the vehicle. Based on these observations and signs of impairment, Choc-Salam was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which he completed before being arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI), police said.
Choc-Salam was transported to Sparta Police Headquarters for processing, where he completed breath tests. He was subsequently issued multiple summonses, including DWI, open container of alcohol in a vehicle, driving without a license, failure to produce vehicle documents, and careless driving.
During the investigation, Choc-Salam attempted to obstruct officers by allegedly providing multiple false names. After further investigation, he was correctly identified and charged with hindering and obstruction, police said.
Choc-Salam was released to a sober adult and is pending a court appearance, police said.
