Father, son arrested on warrants in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A father and son were both arrested on warrants Wednesday afternoon in Mount Olive Township.

On Oct. 11, at 3:08 p.m., an officer observed a Ford Escape, driven by William M. Stevenfield, 60, of Budd Lake, traveling in the area of Elizabeth Lane and was aware that he had an active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) warrant out of Morris County for his arrest, police said.

The officer also recognized the passenger as William R. Stevenfield, 20, of Budd Lake, the son of the driver, and was aware that he also had two active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) warrants out of Sussex County and Atlantic County for his arrest, police said.

The officer made contact with the vehicle after it pulled into a driveway on Elizabeth Lane and the driver, William M. Stevenfield, was no longer in the vehicle and was out of sight, police said.

The passenger, William R. Stevenfield, was still in the vehicle and became irate and threatening when the officer approached. After a brief altercation, he was arrested, police said.

Through the course of the investigation, William M Stevenfield was found hiding in the residence and was arrested without incident, police said.

William M. Stevenfield was charged with resisting arrest and both were lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility on the warrants, police said.
