Fathers invited to free parenting workshops at Project Self-Sufficiency
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Fathers looking to strengthen their parenting skills are invited to take part in a free series of workshops hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency this fall.
Created by the National Fatherhood Initiative, the 24:7 Dads program emphasizes five core traits of effective fathering and has been shown to positively impact families and communities.
The 12 consecutive sessions will take place from Oct. 7 to Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at Project Self-Sufficiency. Classes will be available both in person and online. Pizza and childcare will be offered to those attending on-site.
Recent research shows that children benefit when their fathers are more engaged, with outcomes including higher grades and fewer behavioral issues — a trend seen across all socio-economic groups.
“We are excited to be offering the 24:7 Dads program to the community,” said Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon. “This curriculum invites fathers to examine their relationships with partners and children, and addresses topics like anger, competition, communication, and fun. We are confident that fathers and families will be transformed as a result.”
The curriculum is designed for expectant and experienced fathers alike. Topics include health, discipline, handling emotions, co-parenting, and defining what it means to be a man.
Gift card incentives are available for participation. Fathers interested in registering can call 973-940-3500 or visit projectselfsufficiency.org/parenting-classes.
