Fire crews extinguish Route 12 commercial fire in Hunterdon County

KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Multiple fire and rescue crews responded Wednesday evening to a commercial building fire along Route 12 in Kingwood Township, bringing the blaze under control within about 30 minutes, according to officials.

The fire was reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the area of 1070 Route 12. The Kingwood Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kingwood Rescue Squad, Quakertown Fire and Rescue, Milford Fire Company, Clinton Fire Department and Delaware Township Fire Company were dispatched to the scene.

The Kingwood fire marshal was first to arrive and confirmed an active commercial structure fire. The Kingwood fire chief arrived moments later and assumed command.

Firefighters stretched a hose line from Route 12 up to the building and advanced a handline inside while additional crews from Quakertown deployed another line. Quakertown’s fire chief took over operations as firefighters worked to knock down the flames.

The fire was placed under control at approximately 7:32 p.m.

Crews from Milford, Quakertown, Delaware Township and Clinton assisted with ventilation, overhaul and support operations. Additional tenders and engines were brought to the scene as part of the water supply operation.

Units remained on-site for roughly three hours to complete overhaul, continue ventilation and provide lighting for investigators.

No injuries were immediately reported, and the cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
