Fire damages two-story home in Sussex County

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Firefighters from multiple departments battled a residential blaze Saturday night on Cemetery Road in Wantage Township, bringing the fire under control within about an hour.

The fire was reported shortly before 9 p.m., and additional calls to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office 911 center indicated the fire was extending into the residence.

Fire officials arriving on scene reported a two-story, wood-frame home with heavy fire showing from the rear of the building, the department said, prompting a request for additional resources. Crews stretched hose lines and worked to knock down the flames, bringing the fire under control within the hour, according to the Colesville Fire Company.

Officials said there was significant damage to the dwelling and asked residents to keep those affected “in your thoughts during this very difficult time.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately released. The department thanked mutual aid partners who assisted at the scene.
