Franklin Township opens new municipal building; Hunterdon County commissioner joins ribbon cutting and tree lighting

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan J. Soloway joined local officials, residents and community groups on Dec. 4 to celebrate the grand opening of Franklin Township’s new municipal building, followed by the township’s annual holiday tree lighting.

The event began with a ceremonial ribbon cutting led by Mayor Sebastian Donaruma, marking the official debut of the modern municipal facility. Attendees were invited inside for guided tours of the building, which includes updated offices, improved meeting spaces and enhanced accessibility designed to better serve the community.

Commissioner Soloway, a Franklin Township resident and former mayor, said she was proud to see the project come to fruition.

“The new Municipal Building is a great milestone for Franklin Township. As both a resident and a former mayor, I know how much thoughtful planning and community input went into making this project a reality. Tonight’s ribbon cutting and tree lighting reflect the strong community spirit that makes Franklin Township such a special place to call home,” Soloway said.

The celebration continued with the township’s holiday tree lighting, where a local Girl Scout troop led the crowd in seasonal songs. Attendees later gathered for light refreshments inside the new building.

“This new facility represents an important investment in the Township’s future, providing a functional space for government services, meetings, and civic engagement,” Soloway added.

As part of its broader “New Era of Partnership” initiative, the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners awarded Franklin Township $47,500 to support the renovation of the new municipal building. The program aims to strengthen collaboration between the county and its 26 municipalities through targeted local assistance.
