MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Nearly 50 people received free legal assistance during an expungement clinic held in Morristown last week, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
The second Free Expungement Clinic was held Sept. 24 and brought together members of the Morris County legal community to assist people interested in pursuing an expungement.
Volunteer attorneys provided legal advice to approximately 49 attendees at no cost. An expungement allows certain qualifying nonviolent convictions to be erased from a person’s criminal history.
The clinic was organized through the Morris County Bar Association, Morris County Bar Foundation, Morris County Office of the Public Defender, State of New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Calvary Baptist Church.
The Morris County Bar Foundation also provided lunch for attendees.
Several other organizations participated and provided information and resources, including the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Community Connections, Hope One, Morris County Reentry Support Services, Navigating Hope, Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs, Center for Family Services-SHE Program, Interfaith Food Pantry, nourish.NJ, Mental Health Association-ARRIVE Together, Board of Elections and Morris County Office of the Ombudsman.
“I wish to thank all those who provided their expertise to help those looking to turn their lives around through the expungement process. I once again thank the members of the Morris County Bar Association, Morris County Bar Foundation, Morris County Public Defender’s Office, and our own office’s staff for making this clinic a success, and to the Calvary Baptist Church for once again being such a generous host,” Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said.
