GoFundMe launched for Roxbury fire victim after home destroyed, cat killed in fire
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A fundraising campaign has been launched to support a man whose home was destroyed in a fire in the Succasunna section of Roxbury Township earlier this week.
The fire, reported shortly before noon Wednesday on Jill Terrace, caused severe damage to the residence, authorities said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
A GoFundMe organized by Shannon Duque identifies the homeowner as Stephen, who lost his home and his cat in the fire.
“Stephen has been a close friend to my fiancé for many years, and he’s become an important part of my life as well. He’s not only a friend, but also a groomsman in our upcoming wedding. Today, Stephen experienced an unimaginable loss when a fire destroyed his home. Even more heartbreaking, he lost his beloved cat in the fire,” Duque wrote.
As of this week, the fundraiser had raised $13,680 toward a $16,000 goal.
Duque said Stephen is now facing the challenge of rebuilding and is in need of basic necessities, including clothing and food.
“Right now, Stephen is facing the challenge of rebuilding his life from scratch. He needs help with the basics—clothing, food, and other essentials that most of us take for granted each day,” she wrote.
“We are reaching out to our community with gratitude and hope. Any support you can offer—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser—will make a real difference for Stephen. Thank you for coming together to help a friend in need during such a difficult time,” Duque said.
Authorities have not released additional details about the fire as the investigation continues.
