NEW JERSEY – Three of Atlantic Health System’s hospitals, Morristown Medical CenterOverlook Medical Center, and Chilton Medical Center earned ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2025 Hospital Safety Grades.

Two of the hospitals (Morristown and Overlook) have earned top marks for multiple consecutive scoring periods. Morristown Medical Center has maintained an ‘A’ Grade since Fall 2015 and Overlook Medical Center has been a consistent ‘A’ since Spring 2021.

“A commitment to patient safety and the highest quality care are always the top priorities for our incredible physicians, nurses and other team members,” said Scott Leighty, Executive Vice President and Chief Health System Officer, Atlantic Health System. “Thank you to the Leapfrog Group for recognizing the extraordinary work our team does and congratulations to everyone at Morristown, Overlook and Chilton for their commitment to outstanding patient care.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center, their leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
