Great Pumpkin Train returns to Phillipsburg with corn maze, gem mining and free pumpkins
PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — The Great Pumpkin Train is rolling back into Phillipsburg this October, offering family-friendly fall fun at the Delaware River Railroad Excursions.
Each ride includes a stop at the pumpkin patch, where every child can hop off and pick a pumpkin for free. The patch sits in a scenic glade in front of the historic Carpentersville Lime Kilns, the oldest and largest lime kilns left in New Jersey, dating back to before the Revolutionary War.
In addition to the train ride, visitors can explore the Susquehanna Mining Company, where short tours mix humor, history and hands-on gem panning. Each miner receives a bag of “rough” to pan for real gemstones to take home. A gift shop featuring minerals and unique finds will also be open. Tickets for the mine are available on-site or as an add-on.
Families can also get lost in this year’s alien-themed corn mazes, featuring two designs: one with a UFO and another showing a cow being transported. Each maze has checkpoint games, where finding and punching out all the markers leads to a prize.
Tickets cost $21 for adults and $15 for children, with add-on pricing of $6 for the mine and $5 for the maze. A combo ticket option saves visitors $5 on both activities.
