Snack mix products recalled nationwide over possible salmonella contamination risk

John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc. has voluntarily recalled several snack mix products sold under multiple brand names because of a potential salmonella contamination risk linked to recalled dry milk powder used in seasoning ingredients.

The company announced the recall as a precautionary measure following an earlier voluntary recall by California Dairies Inc. involving dry milk powder.

According to the company, the affected seasoning batches tested negative for salmonella before being used in production, but the recall was initiated because the products may potentially contain salmonella.

No illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported, the company said.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide through retail stores, e-commerce and QVC under the Fisher, Southern Style Nuts and Squirrel Brand labels. One affected product also was sold at Target stores under the Good & Gather brand.

The recalled products include Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix, Southern Style Nuts Gourmet Hunter Mix and Hunter Mix products, Squirrel Brand Travelers Mix and Town & Country Mix, and Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix.

The following item was distributed under the Good & Gather™ brand in Target retail stores.

Consumers are advised not to consume the affected products and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement.

Salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more serious illnesses.
