
Attorney General’s Office investigating fatal crash in Hunterdon County
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) — The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in October in Holland Township.
According to the preliminary investigation, on Oct. 18, at around 10:24 p.m., Scott Segreaves, 20, of Zuni, Virginia, was operating a vehicle on Water Street in Milford Borough when New Jersey State Police Staff Sergeant Nicholas Pryszlak attempted to catch up to Segreaves’ vehicle in connection with a speeding violation.
Both vehicles made left turns onto Stamets Road, where Sgt. Pryszlak activated his lights and sirens. Segreaves continued to drive, and shortly thereafter, when the vehicle was no longer in sight, Sgt. Pryszlak deactivated his lights and sirens, according to the Attorney General’s Office
Segreaves’ overturned vehicle was located about 30 minutes later in the area of Stamets Road and Gallmeier Road in Holland Township, off the side of the road and down an embankment. Segreaves was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The investigation that was first announced on Oct. 21, by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. After gathering information, the office notified OPIA, which is now investigating the matter.
“The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this,” Attorney General’s Office said
A 2019 law, N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2), requires the Attorney General’s Office to investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with law enforcement or while the decedent is in custody. These investigations are then presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports an indictment against the officer(s) involved.
