MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Texas man has been sentenced to five years of probation in connection with a February crash on Route 206 in Mount Olive that killed a 22-year-old Hopatcong Borough woman, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Cody Bonds, 39, of Crandall, Texas, was sentenced Sept. 11 by Superior Court Judge Ralph E. Amirata to five years of probation, 100 hours of community service and a five-year driver’s license suspension. He also received credit for 17 days served in jail.
Bonds pleaded guilty June 26 to one count of third-degree reckless vehicular homicide and a traffic violation for failure to maintain a lane.
The crash occurred at about 2:51 p.m. Feb. 3 on Route 206 in the Flanders section of Mount Olive Township. Police said Bonds was driving a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe north when he crossed the double yellow centerline into the southbound lane and struck a 2024 Toyota Corolla head-on.
The Corolla was driven by Jamie Lynn Augenbaugh, 22, of Hopatcong Borough. Both drivers were injured and taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.
Augenbaugh died from her injuries five days later.
Bonds was charged Feb. 24 in connection with the crash.
The investigation involved the Mount Olive Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
