Water restrictions now in effect in Mount Olive Township

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Water restrictions are now in effect for customers of township-owned water systems, officials said.

The conservation measures took effect Monday, April 13, and will remain in place until further notice under township code aimed at preserving water supplies.

Officials said the restrictions are intended to ensure adequate water availability for public health and safety.

Under the order, lawn watering is limited based on address numbers. Properties with odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days, while even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days. Watering is permitted only between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. or 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., with no watering allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The washing of structures, sidewalks and driveways is prohibited.

Residents may water flowerbeds, vegetable gardens, shrubs and trees using a hose with a handheld shut-off nozzle or other low-volume method, but not during restricted daytime hours.

Vehicle washing is permitted only with a bucket or a hose equipped with an automatic shut-off nozzle.

Officials discouraged planting new grass or ornamental vegetation during the restriction period. However, newly planted sod or seed may be watered daily for up to 25 days if the Water Department is notified.

Violators of the restrictions may be subject to fines, officials said.

Residents with questions or those wishing to report violations can contact the Mount Olive Water Department at 973-584–7086.
