Ground cinnamon seasoning recalled in 6 states, including New Jersey, over potential elevated lead levels
NEW JERSEY — Galil Importing Corp. is recalling Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning sold in New Jersey and five other states because of potentially elevated levels of lead.
The Hauppauge, New York-based company said the recalled cinnamon was distributed to retail stores, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida and Illinois between Nov. 18, 2025, and Sept. 7, 2026.
The recall involves Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning with UPC 794711005484. The product was sold in 90-gram transparent plastic containers and has lot code GAP11304, which can be found on the side of the container under the ingredient line.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled product.
The recall was initiated after a sample collected and analyzed by the Maryland Department of Health found elevated levels of lead in the product, according to the company.
Short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may not cause noticeable symptoms, and an increased blood lead level may be the only apparent sign of exposure. Exposure to higher levels or prolonged exposure can cause additional health effects.
Lead can affect nearly every system in the body, with the effects depending on the amount and duration of exposure as well as a person’s age and body weight. Prolonged exposure in children can cause permanent damage to the central nervous system, potentially resulting in learning disorders, developmental problems and other long-term health issues.
Galil Importing Corp. said it has notified customers to stop distributing and selling the affected product and to place any remaining inventory on hold. The company has also begun an investigation of its supplier and implemented additional testing and supplier verification measures.
Consumers should not eat the recalled cinnamon and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
