Hackettstown Historical Society to host Lantern Tours and Ghostly Tales Oct. 16-17

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — The Hackettstown Historical Society will bring back its annual Lantern Tours and Ghostly Tales on Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, offering participants an opportunity to explore the town’s historic district while learning about local history, paranormal activity and unusual events.

Both tours will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hackettstown Historical Society Museum, located at 106 Church St.

The approximately 1-mile walking tour will take participants through the relatively flat historic district, with several stops highlighting previously investigated paranormal activity, unusual occurrences and lesser-known stories from Hackettstown’s past.

According to the Historical Society, tours typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the group’s pace, questions and additional information shared by the tour guide.

Tickets cost $12 per person, while children younger than 12 accompanied by a paying adult may attend for free.

Reservations are required and can be made by messaging the Hackettstown Historical Society through its Facebook page or visiting www.hackettstownhistory.com and using one of the website’s email links.

Those making reservations should provide their name, email address, phone number, number of adults and number of children younger than 12 attending.

The Historical Society will contact participants to confirm their selected date and time and provide the total cost.

Payment must be made in cash on the night of the tour. Participants are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to check in.

Attendees are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Lanterns will be available, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own flashlights.

The Historical Society advises that some sidewalks along the route consist of concrete and flagstone, with uneven surfaces and gaps that require caution while walking.
