NJ Fish and Wildlife begins brown trout stocking in lakes, rivers statewide
NEW JERSEY — The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Fish & Wildlife division has begun stocking brown trout in lakes, ponds and rivers across the state as part of its spring fishing program.
The agency said it will receive 20,000 brown trout this season through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
Fish were stocked March 20 in several lakes and ponds that are open to fishing, including Round Valley Reservoir, Manny’s Pond, Mountain Farm Pond, Amwell Lake, Rosedale Lake, Rowands Pond, Oak Pond, South Vineland Park Pond, Crystal Lake, Sylvan Lake, Laurel Pond, Shaws Mill Pond and Greenwich Lake.
Additional stocking is scheduled for Diamond Mill Pond on March 27.
Beginning on opening day, April 11, brown trout will also be stocked in rivers including the Manasquan River, Toms River, Rahway River, including the West Branch, Rockaway River, South Branch of the Raritan River below Lake Solitude, Musconetcong River below Route 31, Paulinskill River and the Raritan River mainstem.
Officials said all stocked lakes and ponds will remain open year-round and are no longer closed during the preseason stocking period. Rivers and streams, however, are closed to fishing from March 23 through April 11 at 8 a.m.
The daily possession limit is two trout per person until opening day, when the limit increases to six trout per day.
