Hackettstown man charged in Morris County bank robbery

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Hackettstown man has been charged in connection with a bank robbery that occurred Monday afternoon in Denville, authorities said.

Jason H. Perlett, 65, is charged with one count of second-degree robbery following the incident at the Bank of America branch at 125 East Main St., according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded to the bank around 3:58 p.m. March 23 after receiving a report of a robbery. An investigation found that a man entered the bank, handed a teller a note demanding money and left with approximately $6,000 in cash. No weapon was displayed, authorities said.

The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle.

The vehicle was later spotted traveling on Route 10 in Roxbury by the New Jersey State Police. Roxbury police and state troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop around 5 p.m. and took the driver into custody. Authorities said evidence and suspected proceeds from the robbery were recovered from the vehicle.

Perlett was arrested and, as of March 24, charged with robbery. He is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings under the state’s Criminal Justice Reform Act.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Denville and Roxbury police departments, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation and K-9 units, and the New Jersey State Police.
