No injuries reported after fire at Hunterdon County Transfer Center
UPDATE: Hunterdon County Transfer Station closed until further notice after fire
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – No injuries were reported after a fire broke out at the Hunterdon County Transfer Center in Clinton Township.
On Wednesday, April 23, around 4:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a structure fire at the Hunterdon County Transfer Center, police said.
Upon arrival, patrol officers observed the compactor transfer station building fully engulfed in flames, police said.
The fire was successfully extinguished and is currently under investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, and local, county, and state fire officials. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Preliminary investigation indicates the fire began near the end of the workday. At approximately 4:35 p.m., an employee moving garbage debris noticed a small flame within a debris pile, notified their supervisor, and called 9-1-1.
Fire departments from the following agencies responded: Annandale Hose Company, Clinton Fire Department, High Bridge Fire Department, Califon Fire Department, Frenchtown Fire Department, Oldwick Fire Department, Quakertown Fire Department, Glen Gardner Fire Department, Lebanon Township Fire Department, Readington Fire Department, Amwell Valley Fire Department, Pattenburg Fire Department, Three Bridges Fire Department, Fairmount Fire Department, and Sergeantsville Fire Department.
Additional emergency response was provided by South Branch Emergency Services, Whitehouse Emergency Services, and High Bridge Emergency Services.
The fire remains under investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
