Hackettstown man charged with filing false police report in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWSNHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Hackettstown man has been charged for allegedly filing a false police report in Denville Township.

On Aug. 31, police investigated a report that Edward W. Wess was assaulted by a group of people on Luger Road. This alleged assault also included his vehicle being heavily damaged by an apparent blunt object, police said.

During the investigation, police determined that the incident did not occur as reported. As such, a criminal complaint was prepared for Wess, charging him with third-degree false reports to law enforcement authorities, police said.

Wess turned himself into the Denville Police Department and was served the criminal complaint summons. He was then released pending a court appearance, police said.
