Hunterdon Commissioner Soloway honors veterans at VFW Post 8390 Veterans Day ceremony

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner and Veterans Co-Liaison Susan J. Soloway paid tribute to local veterans on Saturday, Nov. 8, serving as guest speaker at the Sergeantsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8390 Annual Veterans Day Program held at the Delaware Township Town Hall.

The ceremony honored the service, courage and sacrifice of veterans throughout Hunterdon County and across the nation, drawing veterans, families and community members together in recognition and remembrance.

“It is an honor to join you today to thank the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces,” Soloway said in her remarks. “Veterans Day is a time to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who have defended our nation, both in times of war and in peace. To the veterans here today, and the families that support them, thank you.”

Soloway also highlighted the county’s expanding support for veterans, including the work of the Veterans Services Office, which helps veterans access VA healthcare, education benefits and compensation programs. She noted recent initiatives such as the 2nd Annual Veterans Resource Fair, which connected veterans to agencies offering employment, housing, wellness and benefits assistance.

“As a Veteran Co-Liaison, I am proud of the work our Board continues to do to support veterans and their families here in Hunterdon County,” Soloway said. “We continue to advocate for things like a VA Community Access Point in our county, while also enhancing transportation services to medical appointments and partnering with local organizations to meet the diverse needs of our veterans. Hunterdon County stands with you, not just on Veterans Day, but every day.”

The program also acknowledged the contributions of community and veterans organizations that provide ongoing support. Soloway encouraged veterans seeking help with VA benefits to contact Rich Booth in the Veterans Services Office at (908) 788-4179, and she invited those who wish to be honored at next year’s Hunterdon County Veterans Recognition Medal Ceremony to register with the VSO.

“To all members of VFW Post 8390, and to every veteran and family here today — thank you for your service, your example, and your continued dedication to our community and our country,” she said.
