Hunterdon County commissioner reads to students at NORWESCAP for Read Across America
RINGOES, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan J. Soloway visited NORWESCAP in Ringoes on March 6 to take part in the national Read Across America literacy initiative, spending time reading to young students and promoting the importance of books and learning.
During the visit, Soloway read stories to two classrooms of students and spoke with them about her role as a county commissioner. The event was part of Read Across America, a nationwide program held each year in early March to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading.
“Reading is a wonderful way for children to learn, explore new ideas, and use their imagination,” said Commissioner Soloway. “It was a joy to spend time with the students and see their excitement about books and storytelling.”
Read Across America brings together educators, community leaders and volunteers who visit schools and organizations across the country to read with students and highlight the value of literacy.
Soloway also spoke with students about resources available to young readers in the community, including the Hunterdon County Library System, which offers books, educational programs and activities designed to support learning and creativity.
The visit also gave students the opportunity to learn about local government while reinforcing reading as both an enjoyable and educational activity.
County officials thanked NORWESCAP and its educators for hosting the visit and for their continued work supporting early childhood education and literacy programs.
