Hunterdon County Commissioner Van Doren highlights heart health, wellness resources

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun Van Doren highlighted a range of health and wellness initiatives available to residents during the Feb. 17 Board of County Commissioners meeting, citing American Heart Month and the county’s focus on preventive care.

Van Doren, liaison to the Hunterdon County Health Department and Department of Human Services, said the county offers resources to help residents access screenings and take steps toward healthier lifestyles year-round.

“American Heart Month is an important reminder to focus on prevention and education when it comes to heart health,” said Commissioner Van Doren. “Hunterdon County is pleased to offer programs and services that give residents practical tools and access to screenings that support long-term health and wellness.”

The county’s Senior Center is partnering with Public Health Nursing to provide free monthly blood pressure screenings throughout 2026. Nurses will be available onsite at the Senior Center on the first Tuesday of each month from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The next screening is scheduled for March 3, and no appointment is required.

In addition to heart health programming, the Health Department continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for eligible residents and biometric screenings at locations across the county to assist with chronic disease prevention and management.

Monthly vision screenings and the Dental Access Program, offered in partnership with local dentists, are also available to help residents access preventive care services.

Residents seeking more information about community health services and upcoming programs may contact the Hunterdon County Public Health Nursing Office at 908-806-4570 or visit the department’s website.
