Hunterdon County Commissioners approve creation of 2025 local law enforcement grant program to enhance public safety
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ — The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners recently approved a resolution authorizing the creation of guidelines for the 2025 Hunterdon County Municipal Law Enforcement Equipment Grant Program.
The Fiscal Year 2025 budget, introduced on April 1, includes funding to assist local municipal police departments in obtaining critical equipment to help protect the public.
“This grant program reflects our highest priority as public servants in ensuring the safety and security of every Hunterdon County resident. This program represents more than just a financial investment — it’s another step forward in the Commissioner Board’s ‘New Era of Partnership’ with our municipalities,” Lanza said.
Hunterdon County has long been recognized as one of the safest and healthiest places in the nation to live and raise a family, due in large part to the dedication and professionalism of local law enforcement agencies. In line with this legacy, the new grant program will assist municipalities in acquiring vital law enforcement equipment and traffic safety devices.
The 2025 county budget allocates $500,000 to the grant program. Of that, $100,000 will be reserved for municipalities without dedicated police forces, ensuring that all areas of Hunterdon County benefit from the initiative.
The Commissioner Board has tasked County Counsel Katrina Doyle, Public Safety Director Brayden Fahey, and Sheriff Fred Brown with developing the grant application process and eligibility criteria to ensure an efficient rollout.
“I would like to thank the budget committee for helping make this grant program a priority in the FY25 budget and thank my colleagues for their support of this resolution to carry out the background work necessary to get this grant program ready for our municipal partners,” Lanza said.
