Hunterdon County commissioners honor local Scout on achieving Eagle Scout rank
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners formally recognized Bodhi Pirog of Scouts BSA Troop 62 during its Dec. 16 meeting for earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in scouting.
For his Eagle Scout project, Pirog designed and led the construction of a specialized shade structure for the Sourlands Conservancy in Montgomery Township. The structure includes a detachable top sail and a retractable side sail and was created to support the Conservancy’s reforestation efforts by protecting young saplings from extreme heat and weather conditions.
Commissioner Director John E. Lanza presented a proclamation on behalf of the board, praising Pirog’s work and leadership.
“The creativity and innovation of Bodhi’s Eagle Scout project at the Sourlands Conservancy is extremely impressive. He certainly has set a high standard for what young leaders can accomplish – he no doubt will continue to do great things, and we congratulate him on this great achievement,” Lanza said.
Pirog, a junior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, was recognized for his academic and extracurricular achievements in addition to his scouting accomplishments. He maintains a 4.1 weighted grade point average while enrolled in multiple Advanced Placement courses, competes as a national-level rock climber and serves as an assistant climbing coach at his local gym.
He plans to pursue a degree in engineering and is currently considering civil engineering programs at several colleges, including universities in the Boston area, schools in Virginia, Notre Dame, Princeton and the University of Michigan.
