Woman charged after alleged pepper spray assault in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Franklin Borough woman was arrested and charged after an alleged assault involving pepper spray during a dispute on Main Street, authorities said.

According to police, Lauren Wade, 43, of Franklin Borough, was taken into custody on the evening of Dec. 18, 2025, following an investigation into a reported verbal altercation and assault.

Police said Wade allegedly discharged pepper spray into the face of an occupant of a parked vehicle during the dispute. Emergency medical services were requested to treat the victim as a result of the exposure, authorities said.

Wade was charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense, police said.

She was issued a complaint summons and released pending a required court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court under the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
