Hunterdon County Commissioners honor young athlete for national MLB recognition
HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 16 recognized the outstanding achievements of Sadie Pirez, who has received national recognition as a Chevrolet Play Ball Player of the Month by Major League Baseball.
This prestigious honor is awarded to only six girls and six boys nationwide as part of MLB’s Play Ball youth initiative, sponsored by Chevrolet.
“Sadie is an extraordinary athlete whose talent, work ethic, and character exemplify the very best of Hunterdon County. Her recognition by Major League Baseball is not only a personal achievement but a reflection of the strength and promise of our community’s youth. We are proud to honor Sadie and look forward to witnessing her continued success and the positive impact she is sure to make in the years ahead,” said Commissioner Director John E. Lanza.
Pirez has emerged as a standout in youth softball, earning her place on the Branchburg Recreation Spring 2025 All-Star Team and helping lead her travel team to the Parkway League Spring Division Championship. Over the past three seasons, she has contributed to three championship-winning teams.
During the Spring 2025 season, Pirez posted a .521 batting average, a .662 on-base percentage, and two inside-the-park home runs. She also led her teams in both runs scored and RBIs.
Her achievements extend beyond athletics. She is a two-time recipient of the Hunterdon Art Museum Young Artist Award, has been featured in the Holland Brook School Bobcat Bulletin, and consistently maintains straight A’s in all core academic subjects.
The Board honored Pirez with a proclamation during the meeting, commending her achievements and wishing her continued success. Readington Township Mayor Adam Mueller and Deputy Mayor Vincent Panico joined her parents, grandmother, and siblings in celebrating the recognition.
