Hunterdon County honors Prevention Resources CEO Karen Widico for leadership and community service

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners recognized Karen Widico, chief executive officer of Prevention Resources, for her leadership, service and dedication to the community during a SAFE in Hunterdon event on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Commissioner Jeff Kuhl presented Widico with a proclamation honoring her contributions to the county and beyond.

“Karen Widico’s dedication to prevention, compassion, and community service has made an immeasurable difference in the lives of so many across Hunterdon County,” said Commissioner Jeff Kuhl. “Her leadership reflects the very best of public service and a genuine commitment to helping others thrive. The Board of County Commissioners is proud to honor her outstanding impact and continued service to our community.”

For more than 18 years, Widico has led Prevention Resources with what county officials described as vision and compassion, transforming the organization from a small, single-county agency into a regional network serving four counties through four specialized divisions. Her focus on prevention and early intervention has supported countless individuals and families throughout the area.

Widico holds a master’s degree in social work from Rutgers University, is a Certified Prevention Specialist, and is a graduate of the Ethical Leadership Fellows Program. In addition to her professional leadership, she has served on numerous local boards, including the YMCA, Hunterdon Helpline, Education Foundation, Flemington Rotary, Flemington Area Food Pantry, and the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, where she served as both chair and board member. She also recently completed a six-year term as president of the SAFE in Hunterdon Board of Directors.

Under Widico’s leadership, Prevention Resources has earned multiple community awards, including recognition from the New Jersey Narcotics Association for Community Leadership.

The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners extended its appreciation to Widico for her “unwavering leadership, visionary guidance, and enduring contributions to strengthening families and communities throughout the region.”

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
