Hunterdon County honors student for national speech and debate recognition

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners has recognized Subhash Durbha, a senior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, for his achievements in speech and debate, including being named Student of the Year for the New Jersey District by the National Speech and Debate Association.

Durbha was formally honored with a proclamation during the board’s June 3 meeting, as his family looked on. Commissioner Director John E. Lanza praised Durbha’s dedication and accomplishments.

“On behalf of the entire Commissioner Board, I extend our congratulations to Mr. Durbha on this extraordinary achievement,” Lanza said. “His dedication to speech and debate sets a remarkable example for students across Hunterdon County.”

Durbha, who has earned the respect of his teachers, peers and community, will represent New Jersey at the National Speech and Debate Association’s national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, this month. He will compete against top high school debaters from across the country.

As he prepares to graduate, Durbha plans to continue his studies at Rutgers University in the fall. The commissioners wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
