
2 men in stolen vehicle from Morris County arrested in Newark
CHATHAM, NJ (Morris County) – Two men were arrested in Newark after being in a car that was stolen in Morris County.
On May 29, at around 4:37 p.m., members of the Motor Vehicle Crimes North Unit (MVCNU), as part of the Auto Theft Task Force, were alerted to a black stolen 2012 Audi A5, reported stolen earlier that day from Chatham Borough, state police said
The MVCNU observed the vehicle traveling through Newark when it became disabled due to a prior deployment of a tire deflation device, state police said.
The two occupants abandoned the vehicle at an intersection and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, both occupants were apprehended and arrested, state police said.
Omar Deas, 25, and Rahmir Singletary, 21, both of Newark, were arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, conspiracy to receive a stolen motor vehicle, and resisting by flight, state police said.
Both were then lodged in Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing, state police said.
