Hunterdon County Library launches ‘Library of Things’ lending program for nontraditional items

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Library System (HCLS) is expanding beyond books with the launch of its new “Library of Things” — a creative lending program that allows residents to borrow nontraditional items such as crafting tools, electronics, and recreation equipment.

The initiative, developed in partnership with the Friends of the Hunterdon County Library, was highlighted by Commissioner Zach Rich during the October 21 County Commissioner Board meeting.

“‘The Library of Things’ is yet another example of the continued innovation and community-focused service at the Hunterdon County Library,” Commissioner Rich said. “This program reflects our library’s commitment to helping residents learn, create, and explore new interests.”

Through the program, all Hunterdon County Library System cardholders in good standing can borrow up to four “Things” at a time — most for a 14-day period — at no cost. Items include home and garden tools, crafting supplies, small electronics, and recreational equipment.

The program aims to make it easier for residents to access tools and items they may not own, while encouraging creativity and lifelong learning.

There is no fee to borrow items, though patrons are responsible for returning them in good condition. The library is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage related to the use of borrowed items.

The full catalog of available items can be viewed on the Hunterdon County Library website at www.hclibrary.us.
