TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Hunterdon County man has pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing hundreds of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced.
David Tuytjens, 70, of Tewksbury Township, pleaded guilty Monday before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in U.S. District Court in Trenton to one count of possession of child pornography.
According to court documents and statements made in court, officers with the New Jersey State Parole Board visited Tuytjens’ residence in December 2024 and discovered several electronic devices, including a 64-gigabyte MicroSD storage card.
Authorities said the visit was conducted because Tuytjens, who is under Community Supervision for Life following a prior state conviction for aggravated sexual assault, is prohibited from possessing internet-capable devices.
Investigators found at least 800 images and 30 video files containing child sexual abuse material on the storage card, according to federal prosecutors. The material included images depicting prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, as well as images portraying sadistic or masochistic conduct and the sexual abuse or exploitation of an infant or toddler.
Federal prosecutors said Tuytjens has prior convictions, including a previous federal conviction for possession of child pornography. Because of those prior convictions, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, along with a maximum fine of $250,000.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2027.
The case was investigated as part of Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative that coordinates federal, state and local efforts to investigate and prosecute crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children.
