Hunterdon County reports record turnout at waste recycling events; upcoming collections set for June and November

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) — Deputy Director and liaison to the Health Department, Shaun C. Van Doren, announced at a recent Board meeting the success of two free recycling initiatives: Electronics Waste Recycling Collection and Hazardous Household Waste Cleanup.

These important events highlight the community’s commitment to environmental responsibility, with remarkable results and record-breaking participation in waste collection.

Deputy Director Van Doren emphasized the importance of these programs, stating, “Proper disposal of hazardous materials is essential for safeguarding both our community and our environment. Every item properly disposed is one less pollutant in our soil, water, and air.”

The first free Electronics Waste Recycling event was held on March 22 and saw an impressive turnout of 760 vehicles, resulting in the safe disposal of over 73,000 pounds of electronic waste. The next Electronics Waste Collection event is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Route 12 County Complex in Raritan Township.

In addition, the Health Department hosted the first of two Hazardous Household Waste Cleanup events on March 15. This initiative led to the collection of over 10 tons of hazardous waste, including 4.2 tons of used motor oil and more than a ton of flammable aerosols. The next Hazardous Household Waste Cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the same location.

“It is inspiring to see such high levels of participation by residents who prioritize these efforts and contribute to the well-being of Hunterdon County,” said Van Doren. “Residents are encouraged to continue their commitment to strong support for these ongoing programs by participating in the next series of free waste recycling events.”
