Hunterdon County Sheriff Frederick M. Brown installs ‘Project Medicine Drop’ box

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Sheriff Frederick M. Brown recently announced the new “Project Medicine Drop” box recently installed in Hunterdon County.

The medicine drop box, where you can dispose of unwanted, unused, and expired medicine from your homes, is located at Hunterdon County Social Services, 6 Gauntt Pl., Building 2, in Flemington.

The box is accessible from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The box makes it easier and more convenient than ever for Hunterdon County residents to take an active role in the fight against the nationwide epidemic of opiate and heroin abuse, which often is fueled by the abuse of prescription painkillers.

This location was chosen to provide seniors visiting the Hunterdon County Senior Center a more convenient opportunity to dispose of medication.

Since the collection of unwanted, unused, and expired medication began in Hunterdon County, hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs that may have ended up in the wrong hands have been collected and disposed of properly. The collection of these drugs is another major step in the ongoing fight against drug abuse and remains a principal concern and a huge commitment of law enforcement.

“Project Medicine Drop is a vital component of the New Jersey Attorney General’s effort to stop the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs, including highly addictive opiate painkillers,” Brown said.
