Hunterdon County Veterans Resource Fair draws record turnout with more than 100 attendees

KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — More than 100 veterans and military family members attended the third annual Hunterdon County Veterans Resource Fair on Thursday, Oct. 8, marking a record turnout for the event, county officials announced.

The fair, held at Razberry’s Banquet Center in Kingwood Township, featured 60 vendors and service providers offering information and assistance to veterans, active-duty military personnel, military families and caregivers.

The event was hosted by the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners in partnership with U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce.

Hunterdon County Deputy Director Jeff Kuhl and Commissioner Susan J. Soloway, who serve as the county’s liaisons to Veterans Affairs, highlighted the growing participation and the importance of connecting veterans with available resources.

“Each year, our goal is to build upon the success of this event and ensure that Hunterdon County’s veterans and their families know they have a community standing behind them,” said Deputy Director Kuhl. “The record turnout demonstrates the importance of bringing these resources together in one convenient location. Our veterans have given so much in service to our nation, and connecting them with the support they have earned remains a priority for this Commissioner Board.”

Participating organizations provided information on health care and mental health services, veterans benefits, education, employment opportunities, housing assistance, financial and legal services, and local government programs.

“This event is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when government agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community partners work together toward a common goal,” said Commissioner Soloway. “Whether someone is looking for healthcare assistance, employment opportunities, educational benefits, or simply an opportunity to connect with others who have shared experiences, we want every veteran and military family to know that help is available right here in Hunterdon County.”

A highlight of the event was a special medal presentation honoring Col. Eric Petrevich, who received the Soldier’s Medal, one of the U.S. Army’s highest decorations for heroism not involving direct conflict with an enemy.

Hunterdon County Veterans Service Officer Rich Booth was also presented with an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol at the request of Kean in recognition of his service and advocacy for veterans and their families.

County officials said the annual fair also provides opportunities for veterans to connect with one another, establish relationships with community organizations and learn about programs and benefits available to them.

“The success of this year’s fair reinforces why we started this initiative three years ago,” added Deputy Director Kuhl. “Supporting our veterans cannot be limited to one day or one event. It requires a year-round commitment to ensuring they have access to the information, benefits, and assistance they deserve.”

The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners thanked Kean, the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, participating organizations, volunteers and community partners for their contributions to the event.

County officials said the fair continues to grow each year, helping strengthen the network of services and support available to veterans and military families throughout Hunterdon County.
