Man charged with DWI following hit-and-run crash in Warren County

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) — A Mansfield Township man was arrested following a hit-and-run crash earlier this month in Hackettstown.

On Sunday, March 2, at around 3:28 p.m., police responded to the area of Grand Avenue and Beatty Street for a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle crash, according to police.

Police determined that a pickup truck struck a vehicle at the intersection and then fled the scene. A witness followed the vehicle, which eventually pulled into the driveway of a residence on College View Drive.

Officers located the vehicle and, while speaking with the driver, identified as Jovav Santos-Bautista, 27, of Mansfield Township, allegedly detected the odor of alcohol, police said.

The officer found an open, half-filled Modelo beer can in the center console, along with open and empty alcoholic beverages throughout the vehicle.

During the investigation, Santos-Bautista provided law enforcement with false names and dates of birth. He was charged with third-degree assuming false identity, hindering prosecution, driving while intoxicated, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, driving without a license, possession of an open container of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was then lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance.
