I-80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard closing for one month in Mount Arlington

MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The Exit 30 ramp from Interstate 80 eastbound to Howard Boulevard in Morris County is scheduled to close for about a month beginning Friday night as part of a bridge replacement project, state transportation officials said.

The closure will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, and is expected to remain in place until 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The shutdown is needed to reconstruct the ramp and improve drainage.

During the closure, drivers will be detoured to continue east on I-80, take Exit 34 to Route 15, follow North Main Street, and loop back via Route 15 southbound and I-80 westbound to reach Exit 30 and Howard Boulevard.

The work is part of a $65.4 million federally funded project to replace the eastbound and westbound I-80 bridges over Howard Boulevard, which are in poor condition. The project also calls for raising bridge clearance, widening shoulders, lengthening acceleration and deceleration lanes, and widening ramps. Intersection improvements, upgraded lighting and signals, and new ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks are also planned.

Sidewalks will be extended to the Mount Arlington Train Station to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and mobility. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2027.

Officials said the schedule is subject to change due to weather. Motorists are advised to expect delays and check 511nj.org for real-time travel information.
