I-80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard in Mount Arlington to close for three nights

MOUNT ARLINGTON, N.J. (Morris County) — The I-80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard is scheduled to be closed overnight for three consecutive nights beginning Wednesday, June 11, as the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) continues work on the Bridges over Howard Boulevard replacement project in Morris County.

The overnight ramp closures will occur tonight, Thursday night, June 12, and Friday night, June 13. In addition, the right lane on I-80 eastbound is scheduled to be closed Friday night for paving in preparation for an upcoming traffic shift.

Ramp Closures:

  • Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12:
    From 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, the Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard will be closed for drainage installation.
  • Friday, June 13:
    From 8 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, the right lane on I-80 eastbound will be closed from just before the bridge over Howard Boulevard to milepost 32. During this period, the Exit 30 ramp will also be closed for paving.

Detour Information:
During each closure, motorists on I-80 eastbound wishing to take Exit 30 to Howard Boulevard/Mount Arlington will be directed to:

  • Continue on I-80 eastbound
  • Take Exit 34 to Route 15/Wharton/Dover/Sparta
  • Stay right at the end of the ramp to continue on North Main Street/CR 634 toward Route 15/Picatinny Arsenal
  • Turn right onto Route 15 southbound
  • Take the first ramp to I-80 westbound/Delaware Water Gap
  • Take Exit 30 to Howard Boulevard/Mount Arlington

The $65.4 million federally funded project involves replacing the I-80 eastbound and westbound bridges over Howard Boulevard, which are in poor condition. The project includes raising bridge clearances, widening shoulders, extending acceleration and deceleration lanes, and upgrading ramps and intersections. Additional improvements include new traffic signals, lighting, ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks, and extended pedestrian access to the Mount Arlington Train Station.

Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
