I-80 westbound Exit 34B and Route 15 lane closures scheduled overnight Friday in Wharton Borough for bridge deck repairs

WHARTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced the overnight closure of Interstate 80 westbound Exit 34B (Jefferson/Sparta) and two northbound lanes on Route 15 in Wharton for routine bridge deck repairs.

The closures will begin at 11 p.m. on Friday, July 18, and continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, weather permitting.

During this period, Exit 34B on I-80 westbound will be closed and detoured. In addition, the right and center lanes on Route 15 northbound over Green Pond Brook at milepost 2.3—where traffic from the I-80 exit ramp merges with Route 15—will also be closed. The left lane will remain open to traffic.

Detour Information

Motorists on I-80 westbound wishing to take Exit 34B to Route 15 North/Jefferson/Sparta will be directed to:

  • Take Exit 34A for Route 15 South/Wharton
  • Keep right on Route 15 southbound
  • Turn right on East Dewey Avenue
  • Turn right on North Main Street
  • Follow signs for Route 15 North/Picatinny Arsenal
  • At the traffic signal, merge onto Route 15 northbound

The closure is part of a $16.4 million state-funded maintenance project to perform concrete structural repairs at various locations throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties.
